THE DELEGATION OF THE SUPREME COURT OF UKRAINE HAS VISITED THE
CONSTITUTIONAL COURT OF LITHUANIA
The delegation led by the President of the Supreme Court of
Ukraine Mr. Vasyl Ostapenko, has visited the Constitutional Court
of Lithuania.
Mr. Kęstutis Lapinskas, the President of the Constitutional
Court of Lithuania, has welcomed the guests and reminded that
several delegations, including Justices from the Constitutional
and Supreme Courts of Ukraine, had visited the Constitutional
Court of Lithuania before.
The guests told about the situation within the
Constitutional Court of Ukraine when due to the fragile political
situation there were attempts not to appoint new Justices and to
undermine Court's activities and proceedings. Mr. K. Lapinskas
informed about the procedures of nomination and appointment of
the Justices of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania. According
to the Lithuanian Law, if new Justices are not appointed, those
who finish their term of office, shall serve until the new
Justices are appointed.
The delegation composed of Mr. Mykola Melnik, Head of the
President's Office and Mrs. Iryna Beitsun, Head of the Division
of Analysis and generalization of the Courts' practice and its
was informed about the competence of the Constitutional Court of
Lithuania, and subjects who may apply to the Constitutional
Court. Justices discussed about the possibility to introduce the
institute of the individual complaint in Lithuania.
The Lawyers from Ukraine were interested about the terms of
examinations of cases within the Constitutional Court of
Lithuania and the status of Justices.
Mr. Armanas Abramavičius and Mr. Zenonas Namavičius,
Justices of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania, Mr. Vytautas
Greičius, the President of the Supreme Court of Lithuania have
participated in the meeting as well.
